The Campaign Flow

The Campaign Flow (LOD Capstone)
The Campaign Flow The Octalysis Hero's Journey — zoom into a phase to reveal the play Practical Propaganda · CAPSTONE · The Multiverse School DISCOVERY WORKSHOP 1 “Why should I care?” Help your audience adopt the cause as their own Start by answering, for a real person, why this issue matters to them. Anchor it in a spite issue — something they already feel strongly about (Fuel Hierarchy) — and back it with evidence. MODEL: Fuel Hierarchy + Two Ecosystems OCTALYSIS: Epic Meaning & Calling Outputs: chosen issue + brain dump + data anchor + structured doc + an IPA technique mapping with the ABCDEF self-check. Pull a verifiable figure from data.gov to ground every claim. Exercises: 1a Spite Audit (10m) 1b Brain Dump (15m) 1c Data Anchor — find your data.gov figure (15m) 1d AI Sort (20m) 1e Name Your Techniques — IPA 7 devices + ABCDEF (10m) ONBOARDING WORKSHOP 2 “How do I take part?” Give people the language and a way in Give newcomers an easy first step. Build personas so you speak to each group in its own language, then turn a talking point into a shareable asset with the Scenario pipeline. MODEL: Persona Stack + Cross-Aisle Reframing OCTALYSIS: Development & Accomplishment; Empowerment of Creativity & Feedback Outputs: stacked persona map (incl. 1 bridger) + 3 reframed talking points + 1 finished media asset. Render that asset with Scenario. Exercises: 2a Stacked Persona Map (20m) 2b AI Ingestion & Reframing (30m) 2c Render a media asset with Scenario (40m) + Octalysis diagnostic (10m) Build in a deliberate imperfection to invite engagement; keep every claim traceable to a Workshop 1 source. SCAFFOLDING WORKSHOP 3 “Give me a reason to return” Build a rhythm people can rely on Show up consistently. A steady posting cadence, an evergreen content hopper, timely reactions, and your sock puppet's ongoing narrative arc give people a reason to come back. MODEL: Platform Ecosystem OCTALYSIS: Unpredictability & Curiosity; Loss & Avoidance; Scarcity & Impatience; Social Influence Outputs: chosen sock puppet + posting plan + 1 live deployed asset Exercises: 3a Sock Puppet Design (20m) 3b Content Hopper & Posting Plan (20m) 3c Deploy Asset #1 (20m) Before posting: have a deniability + reply-to-hate plan (stay in-character; lean on the jester's privilege). ENDGAME BEYOND THE WORKSHOPS Your audience carries it forward Self-sustaining distribution Aim for a point where your audience shares the work for you. When enough Octalysis drives are genuinely active, momentum carries itself and you no longer have to push every post. MODEL: all of them, working together OCTALYSIS: full stack — White-Hat reason + Black-Hat momentum Sustainability Rule (4 parts): 1. Automate the boring stuff (evergreen hopper + scheduling) so you don't burn out. 2. Stay topical — react within 24h. 3. Let your audience steer the next iteration (engagement → continue, else pivot). 4. Escalate the stakes gradually (White-Hat hook → layer in Black-Hat → Loss Avoidance in endgame). ETHICS — know where you sit: mis/dis/mal-information (First Draft) — make conscious choices. This track sits in DISINFORMATION territory: deliberately deceptive, but factually backed. Historical precedent & primary sources (further reading): OSS Simple Sabotage manual · CIA Reading Room. THE FLOW IS RECURSIVE distribute → learn → sharpen the next issue → run it again. Sustained effort over time, not one heroic push. White Hat vs Black Hat Use both engines on purpose. White Hat (Epic Meaning, Development, Social Influence) gives people a REASON to engage — it builds trust and feels good. Black Hat (Scarcity, Unpredictability, Loss & Avoidance) gives them URGENCY to act now. Powerful, so use it honestly and sparingly. You need BOTH. Campaigns that lean only on White Hat often “feel right but don't spread.” See the Octalysis framework. Practical Propaganda leans on the Black-Hat engine; Data Activism leans White-Hat. Know which you're using. The Sustainability Rule The endgame runs on a maintainable loop, not heroics: 1. Automate the boring stuff — evergreen hopper + scheduling — so you don't burn out. 2. Stay topical — react within 24 hours of a moment. 3. Let the audience drive the next iteration: engagement → continue; silence → pivot. 4. Escalate the stakes gradually: White-Hat hook first, then layer in Black-Hat, then Loss Avoidance in the endgame. THE TWO ENGINES — zoom in for the rule of thumb EXERCISE · Run the whole campaign · the checklist — zoom into a step STEP 1 · Discovery (W1) Pick a spite issue you care about; brain-dump it; anchor it to one figure from data.gov; name your IPA techniques + run the ABCDEF self-check. STEP 2 · Onboarding (W2) Build your stacked persona map; reframe x3; render one media asset with Scenario; add one deliberate imperfection — keep claims sourced. STEP 3 · Scaffolding (W3) Design your sock puppet; build the posting plan; deploy asset #1 (actually post it); ready a deniability + reply-to-hate plan first. STEP 4 · Endgame Let your audience share it forward. Automate, stay topical, escalate the stakes. Know where you sit: mis/dis/mal-information (First Draft).
